GEORGE GOWIN DIED LAST WEEK

Veteran of World War I Passes at Hospital in Des Moines

George Gowin, prominent Jefferson township farmer and a resident of Madison and Dallas counties all his life, died at the Veteran's hospital in Des Moines Wednesday, March 31. Death was due to a heart ailment. He was 63 years of age.

Mr. Gowin was a veteran of World War I, and had been active in the affairs of his community for many years.

He was born near DeSoto on July 10, 1884, the son of William and Sarah Gowin. On Jan. 20, 1920, he was married to Mae Meyer. They were the parents of two sons and a daughter.

Surviving are his wife; the daughter, Evelyn; the two sons, Herbert and Howard Gowin, all of Van Meter; two sisters, Mrs. J. I. Billings of Van Meter, and Mrs. Hazel Bales of Redfield; and two brothers, Dean Gowin of Des Moines, and Arthur Gowin of Davenport.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Van Meter United Brethren church, in charge of the Rev. William Suckow. Burial was made in the Fairview cemetery, with American Legion ritual.

George Gowin Buried Sunday

Geore C. Gowin, 63, of Van Meter, died Wednesday at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the United Brethren Church in Van Meter, with the Rev. William Suckow in charge. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Gowin lived in Dexter for many years, operating a grocery in the building now occupied by the Creager café. A veteran of World War I, he was an active member of the Methodist church here. He is survived by two sons and a daughter, two brothers and two sisters.
