MARTIN WELCH

Martin Welch, son of Albert S. and Clarissa Elliot Welch was born at Dexter, Iowa on January 15, 1873, and departed this life at the home of his son, Willard Welch, on September 17, 1957, having attained the age of 84 years, eight months, and two days.

Mart, as he was familiarly known, lived his early life in Dexter and received his education there in the public schools.

On December 26, 1899, he was united in marriage to Nelle Burns of Redfield, Iowa. To this union two sons were born-Willard, of Earlham, and John of Winterset. His wife passed to her reward on March 13, 1955.

A few years after their marriage, Mart and his family moved to the colorful old town of Buxton where they lived for many years. In 1941 they came to Earlham after having lived in Winterset for thirteen years where he was employed as a meat cutter, which was his occupation for most of his lifetime.

He was devoted to his family and spent much time with his great grandchildren. Mart was a kindly person, a good neighbor and a loyal friend.

His parents, three sisters and three brothers, preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his passing, two sons-Willard and his wife, Ethel of Earlham; John and his wife, Lois of Winterset; five grandchildren, Norma (Mrs. Eugene Conrad) of Earlham, and Sharleen of Des Moines; Larry, Paul and Nancy Welch of Winterset; three great grandchildren, Karen, Susan, and Vicki Conrad, and also one brother, P. W. Welch, of Los Angeles, California; one niece, five nephews and a host of friends.

Martin Welch has gone from us;
No more his life we'll share;
He's freed from all earth's burdens
Its sorrows and its care.
