Finley Carson Addy

Finley Carson Addy was born at Cambridge, Ohio, Oct. 12th, 1856 and departed this life on Nov. 18, 1925 at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 6 days.
His father and mother Marion and Hannah Addy came to Madison county in an early day. His sister, Ella is still living on the old home place.

He was married to Hattie K. McCleary of Illinois. To this union were born five children, two sons, Everett McCleary who preceded him in death, Aug. 22, 1920 and Edmund Thomas. Three daughters, Mrs. Ferne Ryan, Mrs. Thomas Jackson and Jewell. After his wife's death on March 29, 1900, he cared for these children until they grew to manhood and womanhood. The youngest girl, Jewell being just a baby at that time.

On Oct. 31, twelve years ago he was stricken with paralysis and although everything was done to try to relieve him, he was a constant sufferer until his death. One year after his paralytic stroke he left his farm in Jefferson township and went to make his home in Winterset where he lived eleven years.

He leaves to mourn his loss his children all of whom live in Madison county, his three grandchildren, little Jack Jay Jackson. Francene and Maurice Ryan, also two sisters and two brothers and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was a kind loving father and a true friend. Truly can be said of him, he is gone but will not be forgotten.

Rev. E. W. Curtis of Des Moines, a former pastor of the U. B. church conducted the funeral services at 2:30 Friday, November 20 at the North River U. B. church. Burial was made at the McDonald cemetery near the church.
