R. A. Howard was brought home Monday from the hospital in Winterset, and passed away on Tuesday, January 26th. Mr. Howard fell on the ice and broke his hip about 10 days before his death. Since the death of his wife about two years ago, he had made his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Kale. Mr. Howard had passed his 84th birthday a few days before his death and had lived in the old home in Hanley 53 years settling there a number of years before the Great Western railroad was built.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs.Luie Kale and Mrs. Ona Carter, and one son, Eugene of California. He also had four grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one brother, E. E. Howard of St. Charles.
Funeral services were held in the M. E. Church in St. Charles, Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. E. H. Patterson and burial was in the St. Charles cemetery.

Richard A. Howard, who was injured a week or more ago, died at his home in Hanley January 26 and burial was made January 28 at the Methodist church in St. Charles, conducted by his pastor, Rev. E. L. Patterson; his wife died two years ago.
Mr. Howard was 85 years of age, and had lived in South township since the 70s. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ora Carter and Mrs. Lulu Kale of St. Charles, and Eugene Howard of Long Beach, California.
For many years Mr. Howard was section boss on the Narrow Gauge railway which ran from Osceola to Des Moines via St. Charles. After the Diagonal, or later called the Great Western, went through Hanley he went to work for them as boss of the Hanley section. Then he purchased a farm south of Hanley which he operated until a few years ago.
