L. A. DRAPER DIES AT AGE OF 92 YEARS

Had Been Leading Citizen of His Community for Many Years

L. A. Draper, a resident of the Peru community since 1902, died Tuesday, Feb. 24 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. He was 92 years of age.

Mr. Draper was born at Beloit, Wis., on July 4, 1855, the son of C. C. and Elizabeth Draper. When he was 9 years old the family moved to near Masonville, Ia., where his early life was spent. In 1902, he came to Madison county, settling near Peru.

Mr. Draper was a leading citizen of his community for many years. He was active in the Peru Methodist church, serving as Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was affiliated with both the Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges.

He was married Jan. 26, 1891, at Masonville, to Miss Ellen Kerns. They were the parents of four children.

Surviving are one son, Nelson Draper of Peru, Mrs. Mable Landis of Des Moines, and Mrs. Lucille Landis of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. Amy Riley of Goldfield; nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Friday from the Peru Methodist church in charge of the Rev. Mr. Stevens. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.

Services in Peru For L. A. Draper, 92

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Methodist church in Peru for L. A. Draper, 92, of Peru, who died Tuesday at Methodist hospital in Des Moines. Burial will be in Peru cemetery.

Draper, a retired farmer, was one of the oldest pioneers of Madison county. He had been in the hospital since falling and fracturing a hip.

Survivors include one son, Nelson, of Peru, two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Landis of Des Moines and Mrs. Lucile Landis of Winterset, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Six of his grandsons will be pallbearers.
