GUY EMERSON DIES

Guy Charles Emerson, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Emerson of near Peru, died Tuesday at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Charles Silliman in Winterset. He was 18 years old.

The young man's death followed three weeks of illness caused by blood poison starting from an injured foot.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Peru Methodist church in charge of the Rev. Mr. Sands. Burial will be made in the Peru cemetery.

Guy Charles Emerson

Guy Charles Emerson, son of Arnie and pearl Emerson, was born April 30, 1915, at Peru, and died January 16, 1934, at the age of 18 years, 8 months and 16 days. All of his life was spent in Peru, with the exception of one year, which was lived in Osceola.

Guy was a student in the Peru schools through the grades, and at the time of his death, was a member of the Senior class of the high school. He was active in the young life of the community and in all o f the activities of the school, especially in the athletics being a regular player on the high school basketball team for the past three years.

Guy was also interested in and active in the Sunday school and the Epworth League work of the local church, as well as in all the other young people’s activities.

His passing was as unexpected as it was untimely. He played a regular game of basketball with his team on Friday night, and the following Monday, Christmas day, was taken to the hospital in Winterset, suffering from what appeared to be blood poisoning. Complications developed in the following days and life passed out, while he was at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Silliman in Winterset.

He is survived by his father and mother; two brothers, Glen and Martin; two sisters, Ruby of Des Moines, and Hazel of Corning; his two grandmothers, Mrs. M. S. Carter of Peru and Mrs. Silliman of Winterset. He also leaves two nieces and a nephew.

The Rev. E. H. Sands, conducted his funeral services at the Peru church, Thursday afternoon, January 18th, at 2 o’clock and burial was in the Peru cemetery.
