Both Reported Killed While Fighting Germans on Western Front

[Following obituaries of Rex Wade and Clyde Lull a message of Pvt. Ben Kiddoo, Jr.'s death was included.]

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kiddoo of Winterset have received a message from the quartermaster headquarters in France stating that their son, Pvt. Ben Kiddoo, Jr., who was killed in action in France on July 6, is buried in a U. S. military cemetery there. The cemetery is located at Blosville, France, and the plot, row and grave number of the soldier were included in the message.

The body of Pfc. Ben Kiddoo, Jr., of Macksburg, is enroute home from Europe where he was killed in action during the recent war according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kiddoo, Sr.

Burial services will be held at 2:15 p.m. Nov. 18, at the National cemetery at Rock Island, Ill.

Pfc. Kiddoo was killed in action in France July 6, 1944, after fighting in three major battles that followed the Normandy invasion. He was 23 years of age at the time of his death.

SERVICES HELD FOR PFC. BEN KIDDOO, JR.

Soldier Killed in France Is Buried at Rock Island, Ill.

The body of Pfc. Ben Kiddoo, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kiddoo of Winterset, was interred with military honors at the U.S. military cemetery in Rock Island, Ill., last Thursday, after being returned from France where he had been killed in action on July 6, 1944. The services were held in charge of the Rock Island post of the American Legion.

The young soldier was a native of Crookston, Minn., where he was born May 4, 1923. When he was 15 years old he moved with his parents to a farm southwest of Winterset. He attended the Macksburg high school, graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1942.

He entered service Sept. 10, 1943 and was assigned to the Rainbow division at Camp Gruber, Okla. He participated in the invasion of Normandy, and survived the battle of Cherbourg and two other major actions there before meeting his death on July 6.

Surviving are his parents; a sister, Mrs. Zelma Krogan of Palo Alto, Calif., and two brothers, Raymond Kiddoo of Macksburg and Bill Kiddoo at home. One brother, Harold, preceded him in death, having been accidentally shot by a companion while hunting.

Macksburg to Hold Gold Start Service

A Gold Start memorial service will be held at the Methodist church here Sunday at 10 a.m. in honor of the service men from this community who gave their lives for their country in the recent conflict.

Those to be honored are Billy J. Stewart, Ben Kiddoo, Lloyd Hudson, Eddie Briggles, Dale Bell, and Edward Butcher.

The Rev. J.A. Englund will have charge of the service, assisted by the American Legion.
