PHIL KONKLE DIES OF HEART ATTACK

Former Winterset Resident Succumbs in New York, Aged 46 Years

Phil Konkle, who lived in Winterset as a young man, and was well known here, died last Saturday in New York City, according to word received here this week. Death was caused by a heart attack. He was 46 years of age.

Mr. Konkle came to Winterset as a boy, with his parents. His father operated a hardware store on the north side of the square for many years.

He graduated from the Winterset high school and studied electrical engineering at Iowa State college at Ames. After receiving his degree he joined the staff of the Crossley Electric corporation, to do research work in the field of television. He was one of the pioneer scientists in the television field, and continued in that work throughout his life. Since last March he had been doing television work for the American Broadcasting company in New York.

He is survived by his wife, who was the former Fern Green of Winterset; his mother, Mrs. Emma Konkle, who made her home with them; his two sons, Kenneth, 17, and Robert, 12; a brother, Fred of Philadelphia; and a sister, Francis, of Albuquerque, N. Mex.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon in Cincinnati, Ohio, with burial there.
