CORA TRAVIS OF PERU DIES

Mrs. Cora Travis, a resident of the Peru community most of her life, died Tuesday, Nov. 10 at Greater Community hospital in Creston. She was 83 years of age.

Mrs. Travis was born at Winterset Oct. 2, 1887. She was the former Cora Benson, daughter of Albert P. and Cynthia Miller Benson. Her mother died when she was 3 years old and her early life was spent in the home of her foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Clifton of Peru.

She was married Dec. 23, 1906 to Edmund L. Travis at Peru. His death occurred in 1945. They were parents of eight children, two dying in infancy and the oldest daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Ward in 1968.

She was a member of the Peru Methodist church and was active in Sunday school work for many years. She moved to Cromwell in 1965 and attended the Cromwell church there.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Mary I. Huss of Des Moines, Mrs. Maxine E. Johnson of Cromwell and Mrs. Doris McKeever of Peru; two sons, Kendall H. Travis of Pomana, Calif., and Edmund C. Travis of Davenport; a foster son, Clark B. Dowler of Winterset; 20 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. She also leaves two half brothers, Marion Benson of Kansas City and Martin Benson of Madrid; and a half sister, Mrs. Grace Jessup of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Thursday from the Cromwell Congregational church, conducted by the Rev. Ross Shinn. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
