Mrs. Alvin B. Shriver, well known Winterset resident, died here Sunday, April 4th, at the age of 75 years. Mrs. Shriver suffered a severe heart attack in February, and she had been seriously ill since that time.
Jessie V. Coryell, daughter of Robert and Julia Coryell, was born in Leighton, in Mahaska county, Iowa, March 6, 1873. She attended the public schools in that county and resided there until the family came to Madison county in 1893.
Her marriage to Alvin B. Shriver was solemnized Sept. 4, 1895, and they located in Winterset where they lived for a number of years in their home on West Filmore street. Mr. Shriver engaged in the real estate business, and in 1908 they moved to Des Moines, and two years later went to Los Angeles where they resided until 1919, when they returned to Winterset. Mrs. Shriver has made her home here since that time, and for the past fifteen years resided with Mrs. Estella Cochran.
The Shrivers were the parents of three children: William Robert, who now resides in Fullerton, Calif., Marjorie who died in Winterset in 1906, at the age of three years, and Doris, who died in California at the age of 18 years. Mr. Shriver died in Winterset Oct. 19, 1932.
Mrs. Shriver was active in Winterset activities as long as her health would permit. She attended the Presbyterian church and had been a member of Chapter AG P.E.O., the Winterset Women's club, and was a member of the Needle club. Flowers were her hobby in recent years, and she raised many choice ones.
In addition to her son, William Robert Shriver and his wife, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Alta Fleck of Newton, and a brother, Will Coryell of Independence, Mo., and two grandchildren: William Robert, Jr., and Doris Patricia Shriver of Fullerton, Calif., and a number of nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Howard Strong, pastor of the First Presbyterian church in Winterset, conducted her funeral services at the Anderson home for funerals, Wednesday, April 7th, at one o'clock, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
