Heart Attack Fatal to City Superintendent at Water Plant
Clarence A. Reed, superintendent of the Winterset municipal water plant at Cedar lake, was fatally stricken with a heart attack at his home near the plant Saturday evening. His death occurred at the age of 65 years.
Mr. Reed was born at Sidney, Feb. 21, 1885, a son of N. K. and Sarah May Reed. He was married March 10, 1909 to Essie M. Bennett of Anderson. They were the parents of eight children, the eldest dying in infancy.
As a young man he worked in Omaha for a short time. Returning to Sidney he farmed there until 1918, when he moved to Hamburg, where he was in business for 17 years. He became water plant superintendent for the city of Hamburg in 1935, and on Dec. 2, 1944, moved to Winterset to take over the management of the water plant for this city.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, having joined the Hamburg lodge more than 35 years ago.
He is survived by his wife; seven children, Leighton Reed of Farragut, Lyall Reed of Northboro, Max Reed of Hamburg, Keith Reed of Sidney, Mrs. Marjorie Alstrop and Mrs. Jean McMullen of Riverton, and Mrs. Ruth Harrell of Winterset. He also leaves nine grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Young of Clearmont, Mo., and Mrs. Harry Bennett of Sidney.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Richards Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Glenn Parrott, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made at Sidney.
