MRS. A. E. GOSHORN DIED HERE MONDAY

Widow of Late Publisher of Winterset News Was 66 Years Old

Mrs. Arthur Goshorn, widow of the late editor and publisher of the Winterset News, died at her home in Winterset Monday after an extended illness. She was 66 years of age.

Mrs. Goshorn had been a resident of Winterset since 1911. She was the former Gertrude Mildred Rhodes, daughter of Hamilton I. and Catherine DeVinney Rhodes, and was born in Poweshiek county Aug. 27, 1881. Her early life was spent in that community. She attended high school in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell college, obtaining her B. S. degree with the class of 1909. Following her graduation she served as assistant in the botanical department of the college for two years.

She came to Winterset in 1911 and taught science and mathematics in the local high school through 1914.

She was married June 19, 1914 to Arthur Goshorn, publisher of the Winterset News. They were the parents of one son, Arthur Goshorn, Jr., now of Oskaloosa. Mr. Goshorn died in 1946.

Mrs. Goshorn was a member of the Presbyterian church; the Eastern Star, and was active in Parent-Teacher and woman's club work during her residence here. She was also affiliated with the Iowa Academy of Science.

Surviving are her son; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Wolcott of Cheyenne, Wyo., Mrs. Myra Carlstedt of San Francisco, Calif.; and a brother, Arthur Rhodes of Cresswell, Ore. She also leaves four step-children, Robert Goshorn of Jefferson City, Mo., Mrs. O. L. Wilson and Mrs. J. H. Wintrode of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Horace Tate of Alton, Ill.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Arthur Strong, pastor of the Winterset Presbyterian church. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
