Had Been Making Home There With Daughter, Mrs. Arta Powell
Mrs. S. D. Hillis, a resident of Madison county most of her life, died Tuesday at Oskaloosa at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arta Powell. She was 85 years of age, and had been ill for the last two months.
Mrs. Hillis was a native of Monard county, Illinois. When she was 4 years old she came to Madison county with her parents, and most of her life was spent here.
She was married to Samuel D. Hillis Sept. 25, 1882. As a young woman she had joined the Congregational church, later transferring to the Early Chapel Christian church.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Powell of Oskaloosa; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Dora Norris of Indianola; and a brother, Bert Robinson of Winterset.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Reed Kessler. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
