AGNES HARTLEY DIED AUGUST 25

Funeral Services Were Held Friday at Catholic Church

Miss Agnes Hartley, well known Winterset resident, died at her home on West Green street, Aug. 25th, after an extended illness. She was 70 years of age and death came last Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock.

Agnes Jane Hartley, the daughter of Edmond and Catherine Hartley, was born in Monroe township, Madison county, on January 27, 1879, and this county has since been her home. She was the youngest of a family of 12 children, two of whom died in their early years. She attended a rural school and later the Winterset public school. She taught several terms of school and then attended Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls. She resumed her teaching and later began working in the Koser Dry Goods store on the south side of the square. She continued with this position for more than 20 years, and then served in the same capacity with their successor, the Chas. A. Graves company until she was forced to resign because of ill health.

Survivors include one brother and three sisters: Mrs. Alice Doud of Lancaster, Ohio, E. D. Hartley, Mrs. Mary Carney and Miss Catherine Hartley, all of Winterset. She is also survived by a number of nephews and nieces.

The Rev. J. J. Judge conducted her funeral services at the St. Joseph Catholic church of which she was a life long member, last Friday, Aug. 27th, at 10 o'clock in the morning and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
