Lingering Illness Ends for 89-Year-Old Local Resident
John Fleming, a well known resident here for many years, died last Saturday, May 22, at the Carter Nursing home in Winterset, after a lingering illness. He was 89 years of age.
Mr. Fleming was born Oct. 6, 1858, at Washington, Ill., the son of Peter and Helen Fleming. In 1887, he was married to Annabelle Allen. They came to Madison county about 1900, and later moved to Missouri. He had been back in Madison county for the last five years.
Mr. Fleming was the father of six children, with one daughter, Hazel, preceding him in death. Mrs. Fleming died in 1946.
Surviving are the five children, Harley and Vera Fleming of Des Moines, Lloyd Felming of Winterset, Mrs. Jesse Hubbs of Colton, Calif., and Mrs. Wilford Patterson of Jasper, Mo. He also leaves 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held here Monday from the Richards Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. W. P. Gordon, pastor of the Winterset United Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
