FORMER RESIDENT DIES IN WYOMING

James Sidney Smith Was 37 Years Old at His Death

James Sidney Smith, former Winterset resident, died Saturday, Sept. 2nd at the Converse county Memorial hospital at Douglas, Wyo., after an illness of three weeks. "Sid" Smith, as he was familiary known, was 37 years of age and died from the complications arising from toxic poisoning. Mrs. Mae Shearer of Peru is his aunt.

He was born at Winterset, May 14, 1913, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Smith. At the age of four he moved with his parents to Douglas, later moving to Glenrock, where he attended school. He also attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and studied voice at several conservatories. He had spent the major part of his adult life singing.

He is survived by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Gaither of Heidelberg, Germany and Patsy Smith who was visiting Colonel and Mrs. Gaither at the time he became ill, and who flew home. He also leaves one son, Raleigh Sidney Smith of Casper, Wyo., and the aunt, Mrs. Mae Shearer of Peru.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the St. James Catholic church, and burial was made in the Douglas Park cemetery.
