MRS. CARLETON SMITH DIES IN MARYLAND

Wife of Former Winterset Resident to be Buried in Washington

Mrs. Carleton D. Smith, died at her home in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Monday, June 25th, according to word received yesterday, by her husband’s cousin, Mrs. J. C. Moore, Mrs. Smith, the former Anne Jones, had visited in Winterset a number of times. With her husband’s family, the late Sam C. Smith, and Mrs. Smith, who now resides in Iowa City.

She was a native of Washington, D. C. and attended college there where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She was married to Carleton Smith, February 28, 1927. Since then the family has resided either in Washington or in Rye, New York. Mr. Smith, who has been associated with the National Broadcasting company for many years, was recently returned to Washington, where he is a vice-president, of the company, and general manager of the Radio and Television studios in the nation’s capital.

She is survived by her husband and their one son, Craig who is 15 years of age and a sister who also resides in Washington. The family had planned to spend the summer in Europe, but cancelled their plans when she became ill several weeks ago.

Funeral and burial services were held Wednesday afternoon in Washington.
