Nancy Belle Bruce, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard P. Bruce was born October 27, 1861 at Winterset. She resided there until 1908.
She was united in marriage to T. W. Stark of Iowa City, Iowa on February 20, 1882. Of this union five children were born: Nota, Faye, Alta, Leta and Thomas.
After their marriage they resided on a farm in Madison county and later moved to Winterset. They moved to a farm near Mt. Vernon South Dakota in 1908.
She united with the M. E. church in 1881 at Winterset, and transferred her membership to Mt. Vernon M. E. church in the year 1908, when Rev. A. W. Thurston was pastor. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors for many years up to the time of her death, her membership being in the lodge at Mt. Vernon, South Dakota.
She was taken ill last December 1931 and gradually grew worse until she passed away Friday evening at five minutes after 6 o'clock at the Methodist state hospital, Mitchell, South Dakota. If she had lived until Saturday afternoon, February 20th, she would have been married 50 years.
She leaves to mourn her loss her sorrowing husband and five children, Mrs. Nota Chace of Winterset, Mrs. Faye McDonald of Mt. Vernon, South Dakota, Mrs. Alta Dedeen of Hetland, South Dakota, Mrs. Leta Larson of Wilmington, California; and Thomas Stark of Mt. Vernon, South Dakota; also one sister, Mrs. Kate Underwood of Sprague, Washington; also ten grandchildren.
