M. O. Brady

M. O. Brady, eldest son of Richard and Elizabeth (Stites) Brady was born in Gentry, now Worth county, Missouri, February 5, 1856, and died at his home in Monroe township, Madison county, Iowa, April 7, 1932 at the age of 76 years, two months and two days. Five sons and seven daughters comprised this family.

Mr. Brady grew to manhood and attended the district schools in his native state but soon thereafter came to Madison county, Iowa, where he secured employment and became interested in the pursuit of agriculture and the raising of livestock which he followed as a life occupation.

On February 16, 1882, he was united in marriage to Emma Bell Aikin. To this union were born six children, two sons and four daughters, one son Lee died in infancy. One daughter, Mrs. Cleo Pearl Smith died in 1929. Those surviving the departed are his widow, Mrs. Brady, one son, Ora of Macksburg, three daughters, Mrs. Minta Fay Cox, Morgan Minnesota; Mrs. Millie Harrell, Peru; and Mrs. Eva Silverthorne of Winterset.

Three sisters and three brothers; Mrs. Thomas Brown, Washington, Iowa; Mrs. George Smith, Parsons, Kansas; and Mrs. Will Richardson, Cameron, Missouri; William Brady, Cameron, Missouri; David Brady, Toledo, Iowa; and Andrew Brady of Winterset; and eleven grandchildren. With the exception of five years, Mr. and Mrs. Brady have lived on the same farm for the past fifty years.

He is a member of the following fraternal orders; Evening Star lodge A.F. & A.M., Winterset; Iowa Grandriver Lodge I.O.O.F., Macksburg and the Modern Woodmen of America, Macksburg.

He has held many responsible elective positions with honor to himself and his constituents. Having served nine years as a member of the Madison County Board of Supervisors.

Mr. Brady was an honest, industrious and a respected citizen and his advise and council was sought by all who knew him. He was an active supporter of the spiritual and social activities of the community. He endeavored to promote the better things of life that all might enjoy the fruits of their labors and live in conformity with the high moral standards of our country.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Macksburg Sunday at 2:30 p.m. April 10th by the Rev. A. R. Weed, pastor of West Star, Worthington churches with burial in the Macksburg cemetery.
