MRS. WES SMITH DIED SATURDAY

Resident Here More Than Half Century Was 81 Years of Age

Mrs. Wesley Smith, a resident of Madison county for more than half a century, died at her home in Winterset, Saturday, April 1, after an extended period of failing health. She was 81 years of age.

Mrs. Smith was the former Jennie V. Davidson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Davidson, and she was born Aug. 10, 1868, in Dallas county, where her early life was spent.

She was married to Fred Gilbrech May 2, 1887. They were the parents of one son, Earl Gilbrech of Winterset.

She was married May 1, 1900, to Wesley Smith of Winterset. This community since had been her home.

Mrs. Smith was a charter member of Temple 105 of the Pythian Sisters, of which she was Temple Mother. She was also a member of the Pitzer Relief corps, and a charter member of the American Legion auxilliary here. She was affiliated with the First Presbyterian church.

Surviving are her husband and son of Winterset; a step-granddaughter, Mrs. Dorothy Jenkins of Republican City, Nebr.; two step-great grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Davidson of Ankeny, J. R. Davidson of Des Moines, and William Davidson of Huntington Park, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Nixon of Granger, and Mrs. Gertrude Howard of Grimes.

Funeral services were held Monday from Richards Funeral home in charge of the Rev. C. D. Loehr pastor of the Winterset Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
