Mrs. Adeline Slaven passed away Friday afternoon at the home of her son, Tide.

The services were held Sunday afternoon at the Church of Christ with the Rev. McEldowney in charge. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.

Mrs. Slaven was nearly eighty years old at the time of her death.

She is survived by six sons, Jess and Oder of Indiana, Nitus of Dexter, and Tide, Guy and Ernest of Earlham. Three other children preceded her in death.

Adeline Gowin Slavens, oldest daughter of Stephen and Eliza Gowin, was born in Hendricks County, Indiana, July 10, 1852, and departed this life on January 8, 1932, being 79 years, six months, and 28 days old.

On October 27, 1872, she was married to William Slavens, son of James and Margaret Slavens. To this union were born seven sons and two daughters, the husband, one son, Garner, and two daughters, Myrtle Marrion and Maggie LaFoe, having preceded the wife and mother to the better land. The children are Oder, of Plainfield, Ind.; Jesse, of Crawfordsville, Ind.; Ernest, Tide, and Guy, of Earlham, and Nitus of Dexter, two granddaughters, Thelma Marrion and Velma Marrion Sloan, whom she raised and worshipped since the death of their mother, Myrtle.

Mr. and Mrs. Slavens spend most of their married life at North Salem, Ind., where they were members of the Christian church and where most of their children were born. They lived the simple, quiet life of good citizens, and reared their children to habits of industry and economy.

In 1914 they came to Iowa, settling at Waukee. The first of March, 1917, they came to Earlham to make this their permanent home and be near their four sons who reside near Earlham. She leaves to mourn their loss one sister, Annie Crose, Paris, Ill., two brothers, Oliver and Buck, of Danville, Ind., six sons, several grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives and friends.

Attended Rites for Mother In Iowa - Mother of Oder and Jesse Slavens Died Jan. 8 at Age of 79

Oder Slavens and son Cecil, and Jesse Slavens and son Clyde of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Clarence Bray of Indianapolis returned home Thursday from the funeral services of Mrs. Adeline Gowin Slavens, mother of Oder and Jesse Slavens.

Mrs. Adeline Gowin Slavens, wife of William Slavens, formerly of North Salem and Montclair, passed away after a brief illness January 8 at the home of a son, Tide Slavens of Earlham, Iowa, at the age of 79 years.

Left to mourn are six sons, Ernest, Tide, and Guy of Earlham, Iowa, Nitus of Dexter, Iowa, Jesse of Crawfordsville, and Oder of Plainfield; two brothers, Buck and Oliver of Danville, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Crose of Paris, Illinois, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.

The husband and two daughters and a son preceded her in death. Burial was in the Earlham, Iowa cemetery.
