Death of John McCleary

John McCleary passed away at his home, one mile west of Dexter Monday, March 21st at 12 noon. He had been ill with pneumonia a short time before his death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Jefferson church at 1:30 o'clock. Burial was in the Jefferson cemetery. He leaves three children, Curtis, Vernon and Millard. Curtis is the manager of the Dexter creamery. One daughter preceded him in death, being killed in a train accident a few years ago.

Mr. McCleary has lived in Madison county all his life, until a few years ago when he moved to a farm one mile west of Dexter.

John Oscar McCleary, son of Chas. S. and Mary Elizabeth McCleary was born March 4, 1860 in Jefferson Twp., Madison County, 12 miles north of Winterset, Iowa, and departed this life March 21, 1932, at his home one mile west of Dexter, aged 72 years and 17 days.

He grew to maturity at the home of his parents and in the year 1889 was united in marriage to Mary A. Kopp. To this union were born six children, Millard O., of Earlham; Vernon E., of Adel; Curtis N., of Stuart, and Stella W., Ernest and an infant son all three deceased, the mother also having preceded him in death on December 16, 1928.

He is also survived by seven brothers, A. B., of Houston, Texas; C. A. and J. F., of Winterset; W. H., of Dexter; C. C. and S. W., of St. Charles, and E. M., of Hollywood, Calif., his three sisters, Mary, Sarah and Ella having preceded him in death.

Besides his children, he leaves to mourn his death, two grandchildren Lenore and LaVere, and a host of friends by whom he will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held Wednesday forenoon in Dexter and interment was in a cemetery near Van Meter.
