DEATH OCCURS CHRISTMAS DAY

Mrs. W. H. Thompson Dies at Her Home During Early Morning

Mrs. Gertrude Thompson, widow of the prominent Winterset physician, Dr. W. H. Thompson, whose death occurred a decade ago, died Christmas morning at her home in Winterset. Death came during her sleep, at the age of 84 years.

Mrs. Thompson had been a resident of Winterset for 53 years. She was the former Gertrude French, and was born in Knox county, Illinois, on April 6, 1866. As a child she moved with her parents to Monroe, Ia., where her early life was spent.

She was married at Monroe to Dr. W. H. Thompson on Oct. 24, 1893. They were the parents of one son, Russell Thompson, who preceded the mother in death in 1925. The death of Doctor Thompson occurred in 1940. A step-son, Wallace Thompson, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Thompson was long a member of the First Presbyterian church in Winterset.

Nearest surviving relatives are her step-daughter, Helen Thompson of Kansas City; and her brother, Tom French, who had made his home here with her for the last four years.

Funeral services were set for this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Richards Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Clement D. Loehr, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, assisted by the Rev. S. C. Picken, pastor of the United Presbyterian church of Winterset. Burial is to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
