Thomas M. Scott, well known resident of Madison county died at his home on West Jefferson street Monday morning, May first at 1:30 o'clock. Mr. Scott had been in poor health for several years and his condition became worse last week. On Saturday evening he developed angina pectoris and his condition was critical until he died.
Mr. Scott who was 67 years of age, was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, January 20, 1866. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Scott, came to Madison county in October of that year and they settled in South township. Mr. Scott was raised in this township and when a young man, he followed railroading until 1892. That year he was married to Miss Agnes Banker and they went to housekeeping on a farm in Ohio township. Later they purchased a farm in Scott township.
In 1908 he was elected county auditor, and served for two terms. Then he was for a time employed as bookkeeper and teller of the First National Bank. He later devoted his entire time to looking after his property. Mrs. Scott died in 1909 leaving one son Earl.
In 1911, he was married to Miss Jean M. Cash, who survives him. The son Earl and a granddaughter, Agnes of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, a brother, Ed of Arkansas City, Kansas and a sister, Mrs. Hettie Leggett of St. Charles also survive him.
Mr. Scott was a member of the Baptist church and of the Masonic lodge. The Rev. F. W. Madson, pastor of the Winterset Baptist church conducted his funeral services at the church at 2 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
