Nelson Jackson

Nelson Jackson was born July 6, 1845, at Syracuse, New York, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leander Jackson and parted this life at his home in Winterset, June 2, 1933 at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 26 days. In 1848 he moved with his father to Indiana, when 3 years of age and reared to manhood.

In 1863 he enlisted in the 128th Indiana Infantry and was mustered out in 1866; and was united in marriage to Miss Mary M. Mott, who preceded him in death. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. William Hardin, now deceased.

Later he was united in marriage to Miss Almyra Alyea, who died in 1913. To this union were born 15 children, two of whom, Oliver Jackson and Viola Jackson preceded him in death.

On June 4, 1913 he united in marriage to Mrs. Belle McKinzie of Van Meter, with whom he lived until his death. He leaves surviving him, his widow and the following children; Mrs. Bert Epperson of Stillwell, Oklahoma; Andrew Jackson of Des Moines; Mrs. John Hircock of Winterset; Wesley Jackson of Martinsburg; Edward Jackson of Columbia; Mrs. F. O. Beall of Apache, Oklahoma; Mrs. C. S. Eudaily of Brook Park, Minnesota; Ernest Jackson of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. C. L. Gray of Winterset; Rodger Jackson of St. Altus, Oklahoma; Odell Jackson of Eldon; Mrs. Ray White of Des Moines and Enos Jackson of Eldon.

In 1915 he was united with the Church of Christ and was loyal to his church and regular in attendance as long as his health permitted.

Funeral services were conducted from the Church of Christ at 1:30 Sunday, June 4th by the Rev. H. L. Olmstead.
