Alonzo Edgar Gabbert was born November 8, 1859 in Scott county, near Bluegrass, Iowa, and departed this life January 10, 1933, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Boot of Newton at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 2 days. He spent his life from boyhood as a farmer until five years ago when he retired from active farm life and moved to De Soto.

He is preceded in death by his wife and two infant daughters. He leaves to mourn two daughters, Mrs. Charles Boot of Newton and Mrs. Newton Thompson of Los Angeles, California. One brother and four sisters, Tom Gabbert of Ventura, California; Mrs. Elizabeth Gowin of Des Moines; Mrs. Ella Foster of Sioux City; Mrs. C. F. Jones of Stuart and Mrs. Bell Morgan of Pacific Beach, California; also four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was a kind and loving husband and father and a friend to all. His passing will bring deep sorrow to a host of neighbors and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Dr. L. B. Logan of Newton at the Fairview M. E. church and the burial was in the Fairview cemetery.
