FORMER PATTERSON RESIDENT SUCCUMBS

Mrs. Isabell Nyswonger in Cafe Business There Many Years

Mrs. Isabell Nyswonger, for many years a resident of Patterson, died last Friday, Feb. 17, at her home in Des Moines. She was 71 years of age.

Mrs. Nyswonger was the former Eliza Isabell Cellan, daughter of William J. and Margaret Foglesong Cellan. She was born Aug. 22, 1878, at Lancaster, Mo. Her early life was spent in Missouri and Lucas county, Iowa.

She was married to Chester Mead in Lucas county on Dec. 24, 1895. Their early married life was spent farming in Lucas, Polk and Madison counties. In 1920 they entered the restaurant business at Patterson, continuing this until Mr. Mead's death in 1938. She continued to operate the cafe for several years, but later moved to Norwalk and then to Indianola.

She was married to Sam J. Nyswonger of Des Moines in 1946.

Surviving are her adopted son, Earl T. Mead of Pueblo, Colo., four sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Kilmer and Mrs. Ellen Cunningham of Winterset, Mrs. Etta Carson of Des Moines, and Iona Cellan of Patterson; and a brother, Alex Cellan of St. Charles.

Funeral services were held Monday in Des Moines in charge of the Rev. Carter of Norwalk. Burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery at Patterson.
