Pat Kirkland, 26, of Winterset died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Word of Life Family Church in rural Winterset. Burial was at Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg.

Pat was born April 27, 1980 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of David and Pamela (Kingery) Kirkland and was a 1999 graduate of Orient-Macksburg High School. He also attended John Deere Tech at Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, Iowa. As a youth, Pat was a member of the Grand River Gophers 4-H Club and attended the Word of Life Family Church.

He also participated in the Iowa ATV Hare Scramble Series. Pat was employed as a mechanic for Barker Implement in Creston and Winterset and most recently worked as a mechanic for RTL Equipment in Grimes. His marriage to Carol Phillips took place on July 10, 2004. He enjoyed taking his dog, Diesel, hunting and loved turning wrenches. Pat loved spending time with his family. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to help people.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Winterset; one daughter, Kinze JoAnne at home; his dog, Diesel; his parents, Dave and Pam of Winterset; a brother, Jason Kirkland of Winterset; grandparents, George and Betty Kirkland of Winterset and Winston and Twila Kirkland of Orient; his great-grandmother, Lucy Kirkland of Winterset; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Denise Hageman of Ossian; brother-in-law, Chris Phillips; grandmothers-in-law, JoAnne Schroeder of Ossian and Gertrude Hageman of Calmar; great grandmother-in-law, Eunice Frommelt of Ossian; seven aunts; one uncle; and many cousins and friends.

Memorial contributions may be directed to a fund which has been established for his daughter Kinze's college education.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
