Death of Mrs. Maurice Breen

Mrs. Maurice Breen, a pioneer resident of Madison county, died at her home in Lee township about three o’clock, Sunday morning, October 12th. Mrs. Breen was born in Crawford township, and had spent her entire life in this county. She was 74 years of age at the time of her death.

Mrs. Breen had been in ill health with diabetes for several years, but became much worse with that and complications two weeks ago.

The deceased was formerly Catherine Ryan, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Ryan. She was married to Mr. Breen, August 18, 1874. They moved on a farm in Lee township following their marriage, and have since made this place their home.

Mrs. Breen leaves her husband and eleven children, nine sons and two daughters; John Breen, of Cumming; Maurice, of Carroll; James, of Douglas, Arizona; Dan, of Adair; Mike, of Winterset; Joe, of Chicago; Frank, of Des Moines; George, Pat, and Miss Joan, at home, and Mrs. Frank McDevitt, of Omaha.

The Rev. M. F. Dugan, of St. Patrick’s church, conducted mass for her Tuesday morning, October 14th, at the church in Lee township, at ten o’clock, and burial was made in the church cemetery.
