Death of Wm. Bennington

William Bennington, a resident of Madison county for many years, died at the Mercy hospital in Des Moines, Sunday, March 9th, at the age of 65 years. Mr. Bennington was a son of Joseph and Amanda Bennington, and was born February 10, 1865, near Tracey, Iowa. He spent the first part of his life around Tracey, until his marriage on March 24, 1897, to Miss Lora Cobb, from near Lovilla, in Monroe county. Six years following this they resided in Missouri, and since that time they have lived in Madison county.

At the time of his death, the Bennington family home was two miles west of St. Charles. Mr. Bennington had been in fairly good health until Christmas, but since then his health had failed rapidly. It is stated that the best of medical care was given him, but his condition could not be helped.

He is survived by his wife, six children, Walter, Olga, Velta, Dorothy, now Mrs. C. C. Phillips, of near Peru, and Wilma and Donald. He also leaves one granddaughter, Fay, and a brother, John, of Tracey.

Mr. Bennington was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, and in 1916 he united with the Truro Methodist Episcopal church. Funeral services were held in the St. Charles Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon, March 11th, at 2 o’clock, and they were conducted by the pastor, Rev. F. G. Barnes. Interment was in the St. Charles cemetery.
