Van Meter Special, March 5th-Mrs. Elizabeth Fundinger passed away Tuesday, February 28th at the home of her son Otto Fundinger after only a few days illness. She was 82 years old and had been a long time resident of this vicinity. She is survived by two sons, Otto and William both of Van Meter and a daughter Mrs. William Vaudt of Livermore. The funeral was held at the Lutheran church Thursday afternoon conducted by the pastor Rev. C. Lilie. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery.

Elizabeth Dworzak was born in Bohemia. She was baptized in the Roman Catholic church, but later in life was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church, becoming a member of Trinity congregation in Jefferson township, Madison county, of which she has remained a faithful member until her death.
In 1874 she was united in marriage to Wendel Mattanch. To this union two daughters and a son were born. In the year 1881 the family emigrated to America, coming to Casey, Iowa, where they lived one year. Here her husband and one daughter died. In 1883 she was married to Conrad Fundinger of Van Meter and has lived in this neighborhood since. Two sons, William and Otto, were born to this union. Mr. Fundinger died July 25, 1908.
After a short illness Mrs. Fundinger passed away February 28th at the home of her son Otto, aged 82 years, 3 months and 26 days. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William Vaudt of Livermore, Iowa, two sons, William and Otto of Van Meter, 6 grandchildren.
Hers was a noble, a truly Christian character, her life a life of faith in her Saviour, faith manifested itself in a diligent use of the word of God and in works of love for her family and for her fellow women wherever she had the opportunity.
Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran church by her pastor, Rev. C. Lillie and the body laid to rest in Trinity cemetery.
