Gunda O. Omit was the daughter of Harris and Gelene Omit, and was born at Iola, Wisconsin on August 6, 1908. She passed from this life on September 21, 1962, while a patient at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines at the age of 54 years, 1 month and 15 days.
At the age of two years, she with her parents moved to Tenstrike, Minnesota. There she was confirmed in the faith of the Lutheran church on July 16, 1922.
On December 15, 1926, she was united in marriage to Joseph D. Countryman at Bemidji, Minnesota. To them were born three sons: Harris Delbert, who preceded her in death, Donald Wayne of Redfield, Iowa and Ward Dale of Adel, Iowa.
She is survived by her father, Harris Omit of Bemidji, Minnesota; her husband, Joseph of Earlham Iowa; her two sons, Donald Wayne and Ward Dale; a sister, Hazel Johnson of Portland, Oregon; a brother, Nels Omit; and a sister, Josephine Tuthill of Tillamook, Oregon; a sister Alma Rugg of El Paso, Texas. Also surviving are seven grandchildren.
Gunda and her husband have made their home at different times in both Minnesota and Iowa. The last twenty years have been spent in the vicinity of Earlham. She was registered as a practical nurse in Minnesota under a program established by the Federal Government. Her talent and skill in nursing have ministered healing and comfort to many people. She will be greatly missed by her relatives and many friends.
The funeral service was held at the Fisher Funeral Home in Adel on Monday, September 24, at 2:00 o'clock. L. Willard Reynolds, pastor of the Earlham Friends church, was in charge of the service. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
