Catherine Elizabeth Wurmnest, one of five children, three daughters, and two sons, of John and Catherine Wurmnest, all of whom have preceded her in death, was born near the town of Secor in Woodford County, Illinois, on July 31, 1871 and passed away at the Clinic hospital in Dexter, Iowa on the eve of December 15, 1964 at the age of 93 years, 4 months and 15 days.

She grew to womanhood in this Illinois community and on September 28, 1893 was married to Scyrus C. Moreland, a neighbor boy. They immediately came to Iowa and started their married life on a farm near Clearfield in Taylor County; later farming and living in the Cromwell and Orient communities. In the spring of 1902, they came to Earlham which has been her home ever since.

To this home came three children; John J. of Earlham, Royal H. who passed away on June 17, 1954 and Nellie Marie (Mrs. Harold McFarlin) of Dexter. She is survived by the son John and daughter Marie; Mrs. Helen Shifflett and Kenneth McFarlin of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Dorothy Mock of Ho-ho-kus, New Jersey, and Dorrence Moreland of Whittier, California; fourteen great grandhildren, several nephews and nieces and many, many friends.
