Susie was born October 24, 1888, daughter of Samuel Henry and Emily Jane Pearson, 4th in a family of eight, in a rural area of southern Iowa. The family moved to this area while Susie was still an infant. On December 8, 1908 she was united in marriage to Chester A. Smith.

The following spring they purchased and moved onto the farm where she lived the remainder of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Carl and an infant daughter Lillie. She is survived by four daughters, Opal Noland, St. Louis Park, Mn., Dorothy Routh, Ames, Ia., Pauline Noland, Earlham, Ia., Ruth Noland, Carlisle, Ia., and one son Lloyd Smith, Earlham, Ia.; 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, one sister, Doris Marsh of Dexter, Ia. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

The Early Chapel Church has been her church home since she could remember. She was privileged to worship in all three buildings which housed this congregation. In November 1974 she was honored as being member of longest standing among the Senior Citizens. She loved the Lord and was baptized at an early age, and was very faithful in attendance and any way she could be of service to Him, or her fellow man.

She was church organist for many years. She also sang in the choir in her younger years. She also served for a number of years as Sunday School secretary.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 2nd, at Early Chapel Church with Rev. Williard Dilsaver officiating. Burial was in the Penn Center cemetery.
