CLIFFORD DEVAULT DIES

Clifford DeVault, 82-year-old retired farmer of Dexter, died Saturday, May 17 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Services were held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Evans-McKee funeral home in Dexter.

Survivors include his wife Bessie, two daughters, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Evans-McKee Funeral Home in Dexter last Tuesday afternoon, May 20 for Jonathan C. R. (Clifford) DeVault, a Madison County native and longtime resident. Mr. DeVault died at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines on Saturday, May 17 at the age of 82.

Jonathan Clifford Rowe DeVault was born in Jackson Township on November 29, 1892, the son of Jasper S. and Hattie Rowe DeVault. He was married to Bessie M. Fife at the Pitzer Church on February 24, 1915.

Mr. DeVault farmed near Pitzer for almost 60 years, until moving to Dexter two and one-half years ago. He was affiliated with the Pitzer United Presbyterian church and was a member of the Mt. Tabor Masonic Lodge at Dexter.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie; and two daughters, Ruth Burch of Modesto, California and Merle Kasman, who has resided with her parents for the last seven years. Also surviving are four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mr. DeVault was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Arthur.

The Rev. Jerry Evelsizer of the Pitzer United Presbyterian Church officiated at Tuesday’s services. Burial was in the Dexter Cemetery.
