Death of Mrs. W. Smith

Macksburg, May 7. Special – Mrs. Will Smith, of Macksburg, who was formerly Elnora Pearl Silverthorne, daughter of Jane and Nicholas Silverthorn, was born near Macksburg, March 25, 1879, and died May 1, 1930, at the Creston Hospital, at the age of 51 years, 1 month and 6 days.

She had spent her entire life near her birthplace, with the exception of a few months in Missouri, where she was caring for her father.

On October 28, 1904, she was united in marriage to Will Smith, at Nevada, Missouri, Mrs. Smith united with the Methodist church at Kasson. She was also a member of the Rebekah lodge at Macksburg (unreadable), of Winterset; Weaver and Dan, of Lorimor, and Neal, of Afton, and one sister, Hazel Rogers, of Panora. Four brothers and sisters preceded her in death. She also leaves thirty-four nieces and nephews, one of whom is Mary Jean, whom she has raised from a baby; she is now seven years of age.

Mrs. Smith was a friend to all who knew her and it can be truly said of her, “She went about doing good.”

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Macksburg on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. Eugene Alexander. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
