Macksburg Woman Takes Own Life When Despondent. Leaves Baby.
Mrs. Dean Herren, 35 years old, living a mile or two northwest of Macksburg, hung herself in the barn Sunday at noon.
Mrs. Herren was crippled and since the birth of a baby six months ago, has had despondent moods. Sunday she seemed unusually despondent but after taking a short walk seemed better. After dinner she asked her husband to take care of the baby while she took another short walk. Not returning, Mr. Herren went to the barn and found her dead. She had fastened a hitch strap to a beam and stepped off of a cross beam. No inquest was held.
Mrs. Herren was a daughter of Rev. Cross, a minister at Macksburg fifteen years ago. The funeral was held Wednesday, Rev. Hall of the Winterset Baptist church officiating.
