IRA STANLEY

Ira Stanley, son of Josiah and Sarah Wilson Stanley, was born on a farm east of Earlham Iowa, June 13, 1876, and passed away at the Winterset hospital August 2, 1963, at the age of 87 years, one month and 19 days. He was one of a family of ten children, seven of whom preceded him in death. His entire life was spent in the vicinity of Earlham. His father purchased a farm north of Earlham, and it was there that Ira lived many years, helping on the farm, receiving his education and growing to manhood.

On December 31, 1901, he was united in marriage to Chettie Mapes and they started housekeeping on their farm north of Earlham, where their son, Robert, now resides. They continued to live here until the spring of 1929, when they moved to their present home, where they have spent the past 34 years.

Ira and his faithful wife celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary at the Friends church in Earlham in 1951, and also observed their 60th anniversary in their home in 1961, enjoying the calls and messages from relatives and friends.

He was a birthright member of the Friends church, a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 40 years, and also of the Eastern Star.

Ira was an energetic man, a good farmer, and an honest and upright citizen. He liked stock and took pride in his fine black cattle. He was an active member of the Angus Association.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving companion of 62 years, one son, Robert and wife Dorothy, a granddaughter, Helen College and her husband Jerry, and two grandsons, Joey and David College; also two sisters, Ethel Jacobs of Hotchkiss, Colorado, and Estella Williamson of Earlham, Iowa, a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

The funeral service was held in the Earlham Friends church on Tuesday August 6, at 2:00 o.clock. The pastor, L. Willard Reynolds was in charge of the service. Carl Rolston of Redfield read the Masonic rites. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery. Fisher Funeral Homes had charge of arrangements.
