September 1963LILLIAN E. LEEPER
Lillian Esther Morford, eldest daughter of Jasper and Della Allen Morford, was born on a farm near North Henderson, Illinois on November 2, 1880 and departed this life September 5, 1963 at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 3 days.
At the age of eight years she moved with her parents to a farm south of Dexter. She obtained her education in the Penn Township Schools. Shortly after coming to Iowa she joined the Penn Center Methodist Church, where she retained her membership until her death.
On October 18, 1899, she was united in marriage to Frank A. Leeper of Dexter. To this union were born four children. They lived on a farm most of the time in Madison County, except for a few years spent farming in Dallas county east of Dexter. In 1930, they moved to Dexter where Mr. Leeper engaged in the hardware and coal business. They enjoyed more than 62 years of marriage. Mr. Leeper preceded his wife in death only a little more than a year ago-August 1, 1962.
Lillian was a charter member of the Penn Center Ladies Aid, and served many years as president of the group. She sang in the church choir and taught Sunday School classes. She and her husband took an active part in the building and dedication of the present church structure. She was a long-time member of the Eva Ann Rebekah Lodge at Dexter.
She was very active all her life, enjoyed people and if she could say something complimentary about a person, she said nothing. She expressed great love for her family and was especially happy to be blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her flower garden was a great source of enjoyment to her. An insight to her true Christian character is revealed by a motto, which hangs on the wall of her home, that reads "The Lord hath made this day-let us rejoice and be glad in it".
She leaves to mourn her passing three children; Merle J. of Earlham, Claire F. of Winterset and Eileen E. (Mrs. Edmond Clarke) of Stuart. One son died in infancy.
She was the first of her family of brothers and sisters to be called to her Eternal Home. Surviving are Ora Lenocker, Dexter; Nettie Moore, Dexter; Lena Myers, Houston, Texas; Blanche Pitman, Rio Illinois; Fred H. Morford, Dexter; Ruth Cummings, Stuart; and Hazen A. Morford of Earlham.
She also leaves seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and innumerable friends.
Services were conducted by Rev. John Latta at Penn Center church Sunday with interment in Penn Center cemetery.
