John B. Lamb

Was born in Greene county, Indiana, Feb. 5th 1824. Died at his home in Webster township, this county, September 17th, 1906, aged 82 years, 8 months and 12 days. He was married to Sarah B. Moore, Nov. 28, 1844. To them were born seven children, three sons and four daughters. Two daughters, Orpha A. Darnall of Nebraska and Josephine Jessup of Oklahoma survive him, also a step-son, Phillip C. Moore of Winterset. He moved to Ohio in 1844 and soon after to Illinois. In 1851 he came to Iowa and settled in Madison county in 1854. In 1886 he went to Nebraska and there Mrs. Lamb died a year later. In 1895 he married Elizabeth Howard and removed to their farm in Webster township where he lived until removed by death.

He enlisted in the defense of his country in the war of the rebellion, serving in company E of the 47th Iowa infantry. He was one of the first members of the Christian church of Winterset, uniting with that organization in 1855.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 18th, conducted by Rev. H. W. Hendricks of the Oak Grove church and the interment was made in the Baptist cemetery north of Winterset.
