Rites Here For Dr. Drake, 44

Funeral services for Dr. Duane Drake, M. D., were held Monday, March 28, at 2 p.m. from Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Officiating at the funeral was the Rev. Charles Updike. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Dr. Drake died March 24 at Los Alamos, New Mexico. He was 44 years of age.

Duane Holmes Drake was born Feb. 10, 1933 at Winterset, a son of Eugene and Helen Holmes Drake. He attended local schools and graduated from Winterset High School in 1950. He attended the University of Northern Iowa in 1950, Iowa State University at Ames in 1951 and 1952 in pre-veterinarian school. He spent two years in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He returned to the University of Iowa where he studied five years and received his M. D. degree in 1960. He interned at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. He then did two years of residency in general practice at Los Alamos, New Mexico and set up private practice there in 1963 where he continued until his death.

Duane was married to Joy Jarrard in June of 1958. He is survived by his wife, one son, Andrew, age 17, and one daughter, Jill, age 13, his parents and one sister, Ann of Des Moines.

A memorial service was held in Los Alamos, Saturday, March 26, 1977 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. He was baptized in the Christian Church on April 17, 1949.
