Mrs. Lucy Pace

Lucy Ann Scott was born in Metcalf county, Kentucky, Nov. 20, 1842. When she was twenty-one years old or in the year of 1863, in company with her parents and others she began the journey to Iowa on horse back. After many exciting adventures she arrived in Patterson, Iowa, having traversed the entire distance on horse back.

On Nov. 10th she was united in marriage to George R. Pace. To this union were born four children, a daughter who is now Mrs. Mattie Lenocker and three sons, Wyatt, Dow and Charles. Her husband preceeded her into the Great Beyond on July 26th, 1916 and she was the last to survive of a family of ten children. After an illness of about four and one-half months she passed away on April 18th, 1925 at about 5:30 o'clock, age 82 years, 4 months and 28 days. She is survived by her four children, twenty-one grandchildren, 6 great grand-children and a number of relatives and friends.

She was the oldest inhabitant of Patterson, having continually resided in the community since 1864. For over 40 years Mrs. Pace and Mrs. Brown have been near neighbors and warm friends. For many years each of these kind friends watched to see the smoke ascending from the others chimney, thus gaining the assurance that all was well. The smoke will no longer rise to meet the inquiring eyes of Mrs. Brown but we feel and are sure that the soul of this good Christian woman has ascended to her Saviour and that all is well.

Funeral services were held at the Patterson M. E. Church in charge of Rev. White of Truro, a nephew-in-law of the deceased. Internment was made at Montpelier.
