JOSEPH Z. GROVES DIED LAST WEEK

Long-Time Local Resident Was Native of West Virginia

Joseph Z. Groves, a long-time resident of Winterset, died at his home last Thursday. He was 78 years of age and had been in ill health for the past 10 years.

Mr. Groves was born in Grant county, West Virginia, on March 19, 1859. As a child he moved with his family to Ohio, Illinois and then Iowa. Most of his life was spent in this state.

He was married to Miss Alice Edmondson on June 3, 1876. They were the parents of 10 children, five of whom are living.

Mr. Groves was long a member of the First Christian church of Winterset.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by the five children: Mrs. Darwin Foster of Truro, Mrs. Walter Kelly of Des Moines, Lena Groves at home, Eugene Franklin Groves of Lynwood, California and Guy Groves of Jefferson; as well as ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in charge of the Rev. L. F. Davis and H. L. Olmstead of the Church of Christ. Mrs. H. L. Olmstead and Mrs. Leland Saum rendered the vocal songs, accompanied by Mrs. Birdie Wiley. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
