Alva E. Miller, 80, a retired employee of the State of Iowa and a resident of St. Charles, died Tuesday, February 21, 1978 at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He was born January 15, 1898 in Madison County, the son of Elias Grant and JoAnna Wagner Miller.
Educated in the rural county schools, Mr. Miller was a graduate of St. Charles High School. He married Rachel Bishop on February 13, 1918 in Hanley, Iowa. The couple had three children.
Mr. Miller was affiliated with the United Methodist Church of St. Charles.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel of St. Charles; two daughters, Dorothy Harrison of Des Moines and Virginia Leasure of Des Moines; a son, Max Miller of Des Moines; ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two sisters, Susan Hogue of Peru, Iowa and Retta Lathrum of Des Moines.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Albert and four sisters, Elda, Etta, Lizzie and Daisy.
Funeral services for Alva Miller were conducted Friday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. from the United Methodist Church of St. Charles, Rev. Rolland Towell of St. Charles officiating. Burial was made at the St. Charles Cemetery.
