Was Practicing Physician in Earlham for Past 20 Years
Dr. H. E. Carver, a practicing physician in Earlham for 20 years, died Tuesday March 18, at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines of a heart ailment. He had been there since Feb. 3 for treatment of a heart condition of several years standing. He was 71 years old.
Before coming to Earlham, Doctor Carver had practiced his profession in Kansas and at Rose Hill and Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a graduate of the college of medicine of the State University of Iowa at Iowa City.
During the first World War, Doctor Carver served in France as a captain of the medical corps in the U. S. army. He helped reorganize the Earlham post of the American Legion 17 years ago and was adjutant of the post at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Masonic and I.O.O.F. lodges.
Surviving are his wife of Earlham; a daughter, Mrs. Darrell Riese of Kirkland, Wash.; and one grandson.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Earlham Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. DeLoss Marxen of Des Moines, Veterans hospital chaplain. Burial was made in the soldier's plot in the Forest cemetery at Oskaloosa.

Dr. H. E. Carver died at the Veterans’ hospital in Des Moines, Tuesday evening about 5:00 p.m. He had been there since February 3rd for treatment of a heart ailment which had been troubling him for several years.
Dr. Carver began practicing here about twenty years ago. Before that he practiced in Kansas and at Rose Hill and Oskaloosa, Iowa. During World War I he served as a captain in the medical corps in France. He was a graduate of the college of medicine at the University of Iowa.
He helped re-organize the American Legion post here seventeen years ago and served as adjutant of the post to the time of his death. He was also a member of the IOOF and the Masonic lodges.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Riese and grandson of Kirkland, Washington.
The Earlham American Legion will have charge of the services. The funeral will be Sunday at the Methodist church at 1:30 p.m. Rev. DeLos Marken, who served with the 34th Division and now chaplain of the Veterans’ hospital in Des Moines, will be the minister. Burial will be in the soldiers’ plot in the Forest cemetery at Oskaloosa.
