MRS. IRIS MILLER DIES IN CALIFORNIA

Mrs. Iris Miller, a formerly well-known Winterset girl, died March 13 at her home in Joshua Trees, Calif., as a result of a heart ailment. She was 44 years of age.

Mrs. Miller was the former Iris Gordon, born at Winterset, May 12, 1902. She attended the local schools and graduated from the Winterset high school with a normal training certificate with the class of 1920. She taught a rural school near Winterset for two years.

She was married in May 1925, in Chicago, to Wellman B. Koch. She taught school in Oklahoma for several years. Mr. Koch died in 1937.

She attended Northwestern State Teachers college at Alva, Okla., obtaining her B.A. degree in 1935, and Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical college at Stillwater, obtaining her M.A. degree in 1940.

She enlisted in the Woman's Auxiliary Army Corps in November 1942, at Washington. D.C. and was commissioned as third officer on March 16, 1943. She served until her discharge as a second lieutenant in January 1944.

She was married to Emerson G. Miller at Bell, Calif., on May 13, 1945. During her residence in California she was prominent in American Legion activities. She was also a member of the Daughters of American Veterans.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Eddie Kipp and step-father, Eddie Kipp, now of Bell, Calif., and three sisters, Cleta Clark of Bell, Mrs. Thelma White of Winterset and Mrs. Elaine Sage of Dunkerton, Ia.

Funeral services were held with military honors at Sawtelle, Calif., with burial in the cemetery there.
