Page 1Death of Irvin Elijah Gilbert
Irvin Elijah Gilbert died Wednesday July 23rd and the funeral services were held at the Macksburg Methodist church, Friday afternoon, July 25th at 2 o'clock. Rev. Eugene Alexander was in charge of the services. Burial was in the Moon cemetery.
Mr. Gilbert was 54 years old at the time of his death. He was the son of Elias and Mary Gilbert and was born in Madison county, October 15, 1875. He was married to Miss Pearl Armstrong on December 15, 1895. He is survived by one son, James Gaylord of Lucas; four brothers, E. S. and C. H. Gilbert of Lorimor; Ezra E. Gilbert of Zion; J. T. Gilbert of Menlo, and two sisters, Mrs. Orilda Mobley of Menlo and Mrs. Emma Simpson of Lorimor.

Irvin Elijah Gilbert, son of Elias and Mary Gilbert, was born in Madison county, Iowa, October 15, 1875, and departed this life July 23, 1930, at the age of 54 years, 9 months and 8 days.
On December 15, 1895, he was united in marriage to Miss Pearl Armstrong. To this union three children were born, two dying in infancy. One son, James Gaylord, of Lucas, survives him.
He also leaves to mourn his death four brothers, E. S. and C. H. Gilbert, of Lorimor; Ezra E. Gilbert, of Zion; J. T. Gilbert, of Menlo, and two sisters, Mrs. Orilda Mobley, of Menlo, and Mrs. Emma Simpson, of Lorimor, also five grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Macksburg Methodist church, Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. Eugene Alexander in charge. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
_________________Coordinator's note: No tombstone has been found for him. Both the obituary and the WWI draft registration say his name was "Irvin". Many other records plus the tombstone of one of his infant children indicates his name was "Ervin". We have been unable to resolve which is correct. Also, his WWI draft registration says he was born in 1874.
