JOHN W. SMITH IS LAID TO REST

Well Known Former Resident Passed Away in Iowa City Hospital

John W. Smith was born January 5, 1863 in Jamison, County, Missouri, the son of Sarah and Simon Smith, and passed away May 30, 1930 at Iowa City, Iowa, at the age of 67 years. His early life was spent on the farm of his parents in Missouri, where he remained until reaching young manhood. He later moved to Earlham, Iowa, residing there the remainder of his life, with the exception of the last five years, which were spent in Des Moines. On July 18, 1893 he was united in marriage to Barbara Zeep, a lifelong resident of Earlham, who preceded him in death, August 10, 1924. Mr. Smith was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ella Wheelock, Mrs. Clarisa Smith, Mrs. Nellie Lancor and four sons, Albert Smith, Frank Smith, Russell Smith and James Zeep.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Peter Bock in the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon. Interment was in Earlham Cemetery.
