LOLA HOWELL, Winterset

Lola K. Howell, 96, of Winterset died Jan. 10, 2007, at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset with Pastor John Shaull officiating. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1–8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 17) at Ochiltree’s, where the family will receive friends from 6–8 p.m.

Lola Howell was born Nov. 17, 1910, in Madison County to Walter and Vergie (Seevers) McCorkle and was a graduate of Winterset High School. She taught country school for one year. Her marriage to Aaron Howell took place Dec. 27, 1930, at the West Star Methodist Church parsonage.

Lola and her husband farmed in Madison County for many years. She was a very active member of West Star Methodist Church and Worthington Methodist Church. She, along with her husband, worked several years as lay witness missionaries.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Kenneth McCorkle.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen Van Essen of Winterset; three sons, Walt Howell of Earlham, Duane Howell of Green Bay, Wis., and Gary Howell of Mason City; and 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice or the Winterset Care Center South Activity Fund.
