Funeral services for Nelson Simmerman of rural Peru will be held this Thursday, June 26, at 1:00 p.m. from the First Christian Church in Osceola.
Mr. Simmerman died this Monday at a Des Moines doctor's office. He was 69 years of age and had lived his entire life on the same farm south of Peru.
A son of Felix Henry and Olive Kirk Simmerman, he attended rural Madison county schools. On Oct. 18, 1941, he was married to Christina Powell at Grant City, Mo.
He was a veteran of World War II, a member of Fern Lodge 558 A.F. & A.M. and Venus Chapter of Eastern Star, both of Lorimor and the Cozy Camper club of Creston.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Don of New Virginia and Robert of Osceola; five grandchildren; three sisters, Vada Denly of Osceola; Neita Denly of Galesburg, Ill. and Dora Denly of Osceola; three brothers, Maynard of Hysham, Mont., Gerald of Elyria, Ohio and Ross of Abbeyville, La.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Officiating at the funeral will be the Rev. Neville Clayton. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Murray, with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Fern Lodge 558.
